Labor Commissioner Luke Farley's Statement on Special Session to Address High Fuel Prices
Labor Commissioner Luke Farley's statement regarding the General Assembly’s special session to address high fuel prices.
“When a North Carolina worker fills up their tank, every dollar spent on gas is a dollar that can’t be spent on groceries, rent, childcare, or other necessities. For truck drivers, tradesmen, farmers, and others who depend on their vehicles to make a living, high fuel prices hit even harder.”
“The General Assembly is doing the right thing reconvening to address high gas and diesel prices. I’m also committed to ensuring the focus remains where it belongs: putting money back in the pockets of North Carolina’s working families.”
“By suspending the North Carolina Gas Tax, the General Assembly is putting real money back in workers’ pockets. The savings created by the General Assembly are intended to be passed along to the working families of North Carolina. That’s why I’m calling on the fuel companies to ensure the full value of these savings are given to folks at the pump, not kept as extra corporate profit.”
“Gas companies, suppliers, and retailers have a responsibility to pass those savings along to the folks at the pump. North Carolina workers shouldn’t have to choose between buying a tank of gas and paying their bills.”
— Luke Farley, North Carolina Commissioner of Labor
