Trump Signals Backing Regime Change in Iran

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump on Friday indicated his openness to the notion of regime change in Iran.

“Seems like that would be the best thing that could happen," Trump told reporters following a visit to Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

He criticized decades of negotiations, stating, "For 47 years, they've been talking and talking and talking. In the meantime, we've lost a lot of lives while they talk. Legs blown off, arms blown off, faces blown off. We've been going on for a long time. So let's see what happens."

Trump also emphasized that "tremendous power" has been deployed to the region. The United States has progressively reinforced its military presence there since Trump threatened strikes against Iran after nationwide protests erupted in late December.

He added, "Additional power, as you know, and other carriers going out shortly, so we'll see it now, if we could get it settled for once."

When pressed about who he envisions to "take over" Iran, Trump responded, "I don’t want to talk about that. There are people."

The president has previously stated that the US is ready to mobilize a “very big force” if ongoing diplomatic efforts with Iran do not succeed.
